FOLK IS A FOUR LETTER WORD
And All That Jazz

Episode 9

It's a well known fact that the Blue Hill region is home to
many artists, writers and musicians, some having acquired  a
considerable amount of fame.

One day, Red, Daddy and Li' Miss Candydrop decide to go into
Blue Hill for a few groceries at the market. Red notices a man walking
down the street she thinks is the renown Folksinger, Peter Folkheart. She
has read that he's retired and has settled in the area.

In their day, the folk trio, Peter, Paul and Margaret were International
Superstars singing songs of love, social justice and some song about a
dragon called 'Puff'. They later moved on to Public Television and were
often seen during pledging and the holidays.
You know... I think I see Red and Daddy in the photo...and they are
just teenagers....cool.

Outside the market The Heartfelt's find a Community  Bulletin Board.
Daddy B.B. immediately spots a poster for the upcoming Blue Hill Fair.
The Heartfelt's are HUGE fans of Country Fairs and this one is
a big one. But, Red has found another poster that has caught her eye...
Let's peek over her shoulder and see what it is.

Due to crazy weather there has been a string of natural disasters across the country
and beyond and Peter Folkheart has decided to come out of retirement
to raise some relief  money. Daddy B.B. asks Red if she would like to go
and possibly have dinner beforehand at that fancy new French restaurant.

Red Polka Dot Girl has secretly packed a snazzy new dress and
this would be the perfect occasion to step out in it.
WOW, What A Dish.....she looks great.

Chez Passe is quite a fancy joint, fine lines, crystal, expensive
everything and really snooty waiters. Hey Daddy B.B., the prices
of those wines won't go down just by you staring at them.
Don't ask that snobby wine guy next to you, he will really
sock it to you. Red is blissfully content just to be on a date.

Peter Folkheart Unplugged *

Ah, this atmosphere is so much more relaxed. The audience is treated to
a concert down memory lane with Peter Folkheart singing solo. Man, he
still has his chops. All in all it has been a great night out.
Tomorrow, the girls have been wanting to crack out the kayaks, so Daddy B.B.
has chartered a boat for the day.

THE CORN COURSE

Daddy B.B. and Red may have met their match with cooking lobsters,
but, there's one food that above all others is in their blood.

It all goes back to when Red's Great, Great, Great Grandmother, Rosemary,
arrived in the Heartland 'from away'. Here she met and married Jebbediah and
they soon began growing a crop they had never tasted before...corn. Rosemary took to it right away and combined it with eggs and cream from the farm, and came up with her famous,
'Deep Skillet Corn Pudding'. It was a hit and won a Blue Ribbon at the Heartdale Falls
County Fair. ( A special thanks goes out to the Heartdale Falls Historical Society
for the loan of the photo.)

So, after dropping Hoodie off at camp, they pass  a farmer selling fresh corn
by the side of the road. The corn season is short in Maine so they stop
to buy a dozen ears, but the farmer gives Daddy B.B. and extra ear...
Baker's Dozen.

Yello Hoodie is hand's down the best corn shucker in Heartdale Falls.
He knows that at dinner, the shucker always gets any extra corn.
Man, Bonz won't give up..he thinks  the corn is a bone.

One of Daddy B. B.'s culinary talents is cooking corn, called,
'The Great Corn Boil.' Everybody is chowing down corn with butter
and salt, but Red's  got that look that says her brain is churning and it
ain't making just butter. It looks like it is time for another installment of...

Red is inviting everybody into her kitchen to share a couple of
her favorite corn recipes. The first is Rosemary's Corn Pudding that her
Grandmother found handwritten in an old family cookbook,
Cooking From the Heartland.
The second recipe livens things up by using lime and red pepper flakes
to give it a tropical beat and heat.

ENJOY

ONE FOGGY MORNING IN MAINE
episode 6

In Maine, when the wind blows from the Southeast, it sometimes brings
with it fog, dense fog...pea soup fog. They say,"the ceiling has dropped"
and often it can stay like that for days.

It is the morning to drop Hootie off to camp and the fog has set in...thick.
The Heartfelt's have never experienced fog like this. Where are the islands?
Where's the blue sky? Back home, sometimes fog will settle in the valley, but,
this is a different world. Even sounds travel across the water different. They can
hear the rustle of a seagulls wings as it flies past...it's eerie.
Well, it's off to Blue Hill and Camp Grandslam.

There's Grey Hoodie Guy, now an Official Counselor at Camp Grandslam.

Hootie can't wait......Grey Hoodie is his All Time Hero and he's finally
here at Baseball Camp.

UH, OH...... Aren't we forgetting something?

Hootie's a true Heartfelt. The first day at camp is emotionally the hardest..
And sometimes it's hard on the kids too.

Coming Up Next Week....
Date Night

CATCH AND RELEASE

MAINE

CATCH AND RELEASE
or
THE MAINE INCIDENT AT THE LOBSTER CO-OP

(Episode 6)

Daddy B.B. is really tired of hearing how delicious
'Downeast Cold Water' Boiled Lobsters are. Now that the family
is 'Downeast' he wants to find out for himself and on the Island there is
only one place to go for THE BEST......

His name is Steamer O'Day and he runs a tight ship. The O'Day's have
been fishing these waters for generations. He's not likely to suffer fools well,
especially if they are 'from away'. If you think his prices are too high, he'll
tell you to go fish yourself. You risk YOUR life.
He's tough as nails, but I think those cats have found a soft spot in him.
They take care of the mice and he takes care of them.

Inside, Yello Hoodie Boy has found a tank of 'chicken lobsters' (little guys).
He didn't know that lobsters aren't red....they are really greenish...cool.
But, he doesn't like those orange bands around their claws, it reminds
him of that time he hid in  Aunt Red's suitcase and was discovered
in Italy by the Customs Police. They put handcuffs on him and it
really hurt. He thought that everybody would be glad to see him.....
they weren't. He doesn't feel good when he thinks of it. So...

To their relief, he takes off their 'cuffs', so they all give him lobster hugs and
now he looks like a Downeast Christmas Tree. It puts a grin on Steamers face...
GOOD SALE. He'll just weigh Yello Hoodie with the lobsters on, put the
lobsters in a basket and then weigh Yello Hoodie again, and subtract the difference.
Easy as Blueberry Pie in August. Finest Kind.

It seems Steamer has taken a shine to Yello Hoodie Boy, the kid
shows some spunk, his head isn't stuck in some computer game all day.
He shows him how, by rubbing a
lobster's back, you can put it to sleep....who knew?
It looks like Yello Hoodie Boy has found a couple of new friends,
Steamer and the lobster.

Well, Daddy B.B. is still determined to boil those lobsters and there are a lot of them.
He's done everything they told him, fill a huge pot with sea water and rock weed, bring it
to a rolling boil and toss them in. But...but wait, that means he'd have to kill them.
Yello Hoodie keeps rubbing his, so the poor guy will be asleep when he his that water. It was
never this difficult when Marge and Basil would send them lobsters in Heartdale Falls, the meat
was in nice reusable containers. I don't know if I can watch this...it could be gruesome.

Ah......Phew.... A last second pardon and release.
Just don't get trapped again you guys.

Maybe it's best to admit when you're defeated. The Heartfelt's opt for
a Shore Dinner cooked by people who know what they are doing....
Yello Hoodie will just have a P.B. & J......Thanks.
