THE BLUE HILL PENINSULA
or
HOW DID YOU EVER FIND THIS PLACE ?

The Coast of Maine has many 'fingers' reaching down into the
ocean, the by product of glacial activity a long time ago.
About half way between Camden and Bar Harbor is
the Blue Hill Peninsula. While most tourists drive east, straight
to Bar Harbor, The Heartfelt's  head south to reach their
destination, Little Dear Isle, Maine.

The family makes a stop on Caterpillar Hill, south of Blue Hill,
to take in the sights. WOW, what a view, with all the islands
dotting the blue water. Hey look, you can see the Dear Isle Bridge
there on the left. They are almost there. And of course,
Yello Hoodie Boy has managed to find a real caterpillar.

The Dear Isle Bridge crosses Eggemoggin Reach which connects
Penobscot Bay with Blue Hill Bay, a favorite lane for sailboats.
They said the colors up here are spectacular....
and boy, were they right.

As the sun slowly sets, The Heartfelt's finally reach the Grindle's
'cottage'. There is Basil in the blueberry barren, Marge must have
sent him out to collect some berries for The Heartfelts.

Hello Hoodie gathers everyone for a group photo.
Marge has brought along a welcoming casserole and pie, and
Basil is giving Daddy B.B. a jug of his famous blueberry wine....
you better watch out, Daddy B.B....that stuff can sneak up on you.

The sun has set and the stars are shining. The girls are heating up
dinner while everyone else unpacks the car. It is certainly beautiful
here....By the way, just what kind of casserole is that anyway?
Lobster Mac and Cheese.
And the pie?.....Downeast Blueberry...
Ah...do you mind and extra guest for dinner?

After a great dinner, it's time for the kids to hit the sack.
As Daddy and Red bring Lil' Miss to bed, they pause to
admire the Moonrise over the bay.
It's beautiful....Remember, Lil Miss Candy Drop, there is
more to life than T.V. and computers.
Good Night Everybody.

FROM RED'S KITCHEN - The Ultimate Lobster Roll, Homestyle

FROM RED'S KITCHEN

THE ULTIMATE LOBSTER ROLL
HOMESTYLE

I know what you are saying...What does a girl from Heartdale Falls
know about Maine lobsters? Well, more than you think, you see,
every year, Marge and Basil Grindle send The Heartfelts a jumbo
container of lobster meat during the Holidays.
That's a gift that definitely keeps on giving, so, first order up is
warmed lobster with drawn butter, lots of butter. After that, there is
usually quite a bit of lobster meat left over.
So, Red Polka Dot Girl has come up with a whole bunch of
yummy lobster recipes....even Marge has sent some of her
best 'secret' recipes. Here, Red is sharing what would seem
to be the easiest.....
But is it?

On the surface, a lobster roll is quite basic, lobster meat, mayonnaise,
salt and pepper, maybe a veg and a squeeze of lemon.
What's so hard about that?
Well, often the most basic recipes are the hardest to get 'just right'.
Remember, it's all in the delicate balance of the warm and crunchy buttered roll
with rich creamy cool lobster. Perfectly seasoned and brightened with
a spray of lemon. Oh, and don't forget  the crunch of potato chips
on the side.

ENJOY

Episode 4

 RED ALERT ALONG THE COAST

The colors of Maine are predominantly greens, blues and warm greys,
but at one town on the coastal road, red is it.

After all that L.L. boot shopping, The Heartfelt's are starting to get hungry.
H.Lo asks Red Polka Dot Girl if they can stop somewhere for lunch.
But where ?
Red knows just what to do. She picks up the phone and calls her friend,
the famous Photographer, Nance Trueheart, who lives nearby, to ask her
what she would recommend. Well, it seems that there is only
one 'must go' place...and one 'must have' lunch.....

It seems that when anyone tries to rank the 'best' Lobster Roll in Maine,
again and again, Red's Eats in Wiscasset comes out on top.
Number one. It's said they pack the entire meat from a one
pound lobster in their roll. They serve it with either drawn hot
butter  from Kate's of Maine, or cool mayonnaise and lemon. Now I'm getting hungry.
Nance is on assignment in the area and she'll meet
The Heartfelt's there. She will even have a tray of rolls ready,
she knows the owners after all.......it sure looks good.

For a small coastal town, Wiscasset sure is packed...and it seems to be one major reason,
Red's Eats, right there by the bridge. There's Nance taking a picture of
Daddy B.B. holding a couple of Lobster Rolls....Uh,Oh...some little thug is telling
Yello  Hoodie Boy that he'll hold that tray of gorgeous Lobster Rolls when the
nice lady wants to take his picture....don't fall for that one Yello Hoodie.....
...that's the oldest con in the book.

When bellies are full it's time to move on.
U.S. Route 1 runs from Florida to Maine all along the coast. It's
called the 'scenic route'. Mainer's avoid in the summer, but there's
nothing like it to give a flavor of Coastal Maine and it's inhabitants.

They finally reach Penobscot Bay, they are almost there.

BEEN TO BEANS?
( episode 3)

Nothing says New England like a big pot of Baked Beans.
But the Beans we're talking about is a 15 minute drive east of Portland, Maine.

Yep, Daddy B.B. heard that the 'Mother Ship ' of all of all L.L.Bean Stores
is here in Freeport. He also heard a rumor that if your Bean boots wear out at any time, you can return them for a brand new pair.....free of charge.  If it's true, that's a deal he can't resist,
what with all those winters in Heartdale Falls.
So, he's treating everybody to a pair of winter boots.

You know that store's awesome....Wow, that's a wicked nice wildlife
display. I hope Yello Hoodie Boy stays off of it.

Those are a heck of a lot of boxes and they are heavy. Daddy B.B. just
finished paying when he gets 'The Look" from Red Polka Dot Girl.
Just where do you think you're going to put all of those boxes?
We could hardly stuff Yello Hoodie boy in.

Face it....the car is totally full....there is just no room for one more box.

Red Polka Dot Girl insists on leaving the boxes and everyone will have to
wear their boots and carry their shoes. It's super hot out but come winter
in the Heartland, those boots will come in handy......
And with a lifetime guarantee to boot.

Back to the car.

MAINE

Let's join The Heartfelt family as they travel to 'Vacationland' to
spend a month on the Shore of Little Dear Isle, Maine

Episode 2

THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE

Daddy B.B. drove as far as was safe but finally had to stop at a
Highway Motel in New Hampshire.
It had a pool, so the kids were happy and after a quick bite to eat
it was lights out. Tomorrow is a busy day....Maine.

Coastal New Hampshire and Maine are separated by more than
the Piscataqua River, but, as they say that's a story for another time.
As soon as The Heartfelt's are halfway across the bridge, they are in
Kittery, Maine.....
HOORAY.....finally they have arrived.

First stop is a family photo in front of that snazzy welcoming sign by
the highway. Maine, the Way Life Should Be ?
But what's wrong with Heartdale Falls? It used to say just,
'Welcome To Vacationland'.  By the way, The Heartfelt's would like to
thank that nice Japanese family, The Hato's, for taking this photo.
Of course, the Heartfelt's took their photo and emails were exchanged.

Red Polka Dot Girl makes a habit of reading those local brochures
that you find in the motel. Who knows what you'll find?
Anyways, she read about this clam joint in Kittery, that supposedly has
the best fried clams on the coast, but it warns that lines start early.
Early is never a problem for The Heartfelts, so as the girls secure a picnic
table, B.B., Red, and Yello Hoodie Boy loaded up a sampler tray (or two).
Hey, it's just a snack...you know...research.
WOW, look at that line already.

Daddy B.B. is a bonafide lighthouse nut and he wants to visit as many
as possible. So, after finishing the last clam, it was on to the first one....
called Nubble Light by the locals, on Cape Neddick.
Hey look, the Lighthouse Keepers are there.
As others shoot pictures, Pink Polka Dot Girl is busy sketching and
we thought H.Lo was 'the artist'...who knew?
Time to get back into the car and head east, there are other
fish to fry, so to speak.

SUMMER RENTAL: NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND

THE HEARTFELTS

SUMMER RENTAL

A HEARTFELT FAMILY VACATION
in
MAINE

Let's join The Heartfelt family as they travel to 'Vacationland'
to spend a month on the Shore of Little Dear Isle, Maine.

From almost anywhere in the Country, if you set your compass Northeast,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Episode 1
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND
Keep in mind, it's not who you remember to invite that matters....
It's who you forget.
It's sunrise in Heartdale Falls and The Heartfelt's have been up for a couple
of hours making sure everything is packed for their vacation on the coast of Maine.
A month is a long time and they have all brought a lot of stuff.
They are bringing Hootie The Sports Guy to Baseball camp and
Hello Hoodie Girl will be sharing a room with Pink Polka Dot Girl.
Lil' Miss Candydrop will be sleeping on a cot in her parents room.
It's a full house. After Daddy B.B. finishes packing, they will be ready to 'shove off'...
or will they?
Uh Oh.... in all the commotion they forgot about Yello Hoodie Boy.
He's packed all his gear and is ready to go.....
But there is absolutely .....
there is just no room.....Bummer.
It begins to sink into Yello Hoodie Boy that he can't go.....
He doesn't know what to do....
He starts to tremble uncontrollably.
So......
He goes back into the house. He knows he gets into trouble a lot,
but he doesn't mean to. Everybody but him is going to be gone for
the rest of the Summer. He's all alone.
But wait....
Red Polka Dot Girl gets out of the car and she has a phone in her hand.
Who could she be calling this early?
She has an idea. She has just called Marge Grindle, who they are renting the house
from, and explained the situation.
 Marge immediately sends Basil to that furniture store in
Ellsworth to buy a new sofa. She's been waiting a long time to replace that
old fleabag ...and this one has a pull out bed......Finest Kind.
It will be great for over flow guests and Yello Hoodie Boy can
be the first to sleep on it.
But....what about the car? There is not a square inch of space left.
Well. Red Polka Dot Girl knows that Bonz The Dog really hates to ride in
his crate, and he absolutely adores Yello Hoodie Boy.
Yello Hoodie Boy is little.....What if he takes the place of the crate?
And there's a jump seat back there.....who knew?
Bonz and Yello Hoodie Boy are so happy. Leave it to a Mom to figure
everything out. Now the entire family is on their way to
MAINE.
